人間菩提--法親雲來集‧共耕大福田

I am very happy to see that once every year.

Tzu Chi volunteers from around the world come back to Taiwan (to be certified)

They carry out Tzu Chi's work and attend training in their countries of residence.

Upon completing their training locally they'd come back to Taiwan to Tzu Chi's founding place.

Many of them will be certified this time.

These living bodhisattvas return to their spiritual home---the cultivation ground of the Jing Si principles.

Sincerely learning the Jing Si principles they've rectified their thinking and have embraced the teachings of the Jing Si Dharma lineage.

So, they began taking action by going into society to benefit others with love.

They have made great vows to walk on the path of Tzu Chi to benefit others in society and they will never waver from the path.

See, aren't they living bodhisattvas that we truly love and respect?

Yesterday, they attended classes at our cultural center in Guandu, Taipei.

Last night, they came back to our Jing Si Hall in Hualien.

It must have been quite late when they arrived.

I am grateful to our volunteers in Taiwan for taking care of these returning volunteers from the time they arrived at the airport all the way to Hualien.

They even attend classes with them. The group leaders also accompanied them back to Hualien.

See how neat and orderly they are.

Although they are from different countries and speak different languages the way they carry themselves is all the same.

So, although they come from different parts of the world, their way of thinking is unified.

As their thinking is in the same direction the way they conduct themselves is the same.

They harbor a mind as pure and clear as crystal and work together to cultivate fields of blessings with the same compassion for all.

With such compassion, they dedicate themselves to carrying out the same work in heir countries.

It is my hope that every seed of love can sprout and grow into big trees and give rise to more seeds in their countries.

Let's take a look at Johannesburg, South Africa.

There's a very poor area by Johannesburg called Soweto.

Most people do not dare to go near that area because people there are very poor, and some would steal or rob people with force.

But even in such an environment living bodhisattvas can still be found.

There is a lady who lives there called Dolly.

She's already in her eighties.

She retired over twenty years ago.

After she retired, she began dedicating herself wholeheartedly to helping the blind community there.

Her affinities with Tzu Chi began ten years ago when she went to the store owned by the son of our volunteer, Mr. Zhang to raise funds for the blind.

That was how Mr. Zhang came to know about Dolly and learned how she devoted herself to caring for the blind in Soweto.

Learning that, our volunteers also gave rise to a heart of compassion and joined her in her effort to care for the blind people who live in poverty.

One time, when our local volunteer, Mr. Jian drove Dolly around the streets of Soweto

To visit the blind---

Just as I was approaching a traffic light Dolly told me to stop immediately.

She then quickly got out of my car to guide a blind person across the street.

So, our volunteers began caring for the blind community in Soweto with Dolly.

In the beginning, our volunteers only cared for around 20 blind people who were very impoverished.

Now, we care for over 150 blind people.

Seeing that most of them supported themselves by begging for money on the streets, we decided to visit them once a month to distribute aid and bring them love and comfort.

In the first six years, the distribution was held at Dolly's from yard.

Later, with Mr. Jian's help, we were able to rent a local church as a gathering place.

Later on, seeing how our volunteers gave of their love so genuinely to care for the blind people at the church were very moved so they let our volunteers use the place for free.

So, it has been 10 years now since we first distributed aid in Soweto.

In fact, since the Asian Tsunami in Dec. 2004, Mr. Jian would take time during the distributions to share with them that it isn't only the wealthy who are capable of giving and helping others.

Anyone with a loving heart can contribute what they can to help those in need.

This group of blind people were all very touched when they heard this.

So, since January 2005, they would donate what they can every month.

Be it 10 or 30 cents, they are all very willing to give of their love.

Every month, these 100 or so people would accumulate.

(around 100 rand which is nearly US$10)

Every tiny donation (is a contribution of their love)

When pooled together it forms a stream of purity.

(Although it is only nearly US$10) this money comes from them begging on the streets.

Despite the fact that they are still receiving supplies from Tzu Chi regularly their willingness to give and help others truly touches me very much.

This year, because of the cyclone disaster in Myanmar and the earthquake in Sichuan.

They again said that they would like to donate.

They truly are very content and know to count their blessings.

They have even requested that the monthly distribution for them be changed to just once every two months so that these extra resources can be used to help those in greater need.

See, they truly know to be content and grateful as well as to cont their blessings and they further sow more blessings.

Their selfless acts truly make us respect and love them very much.

This is all due to the love and care our volunteers have given them over the years.

Our volunteers don't just give them material aid.

In fact, the love our volunteers extend to them has moistened the field of their minds and so the seeds of love within their hearts can sprout and give rise to more seeds.

Seeing that, I truly am very grateful.

Today's Jing Si Aphorisms: Through continuous giving, we create blessings. Through the handling of human affairs, we cltivate wisdom. By cultivating blessings and wisdom, we grow spiritually.

今日靜思語:不斷地付出就是在造福,面對人事就是在修慧, 若能福慧雙具, 就是慧命增長
