Time flows along like a river.
Today is October 13.
It is date that holds special meaning for us.
Back in 2001------
2001 was a year of much suffering and calamity.
(which impacted people all around the world)
On October 13 that year, while I was in Dalin,
I launched the "Spread the Seeds of Love" campaign.
I'm truly very grateful to my Master, Ven Yin shun.
At the time, he was at the Jing Si Abode.
From Dalin, I was able to watch the live broadcast on Dai Ai TV where my Master launched the campaign as he led my monastic disciples and Tzu Chi volunteers in a long procession filing out of the main Buddha Hall marking the beginning of the campaign.

It was that year that Tzu Chi began the Spread the Seeds of Love campaign worldwide.
So, it has been seven years already, right?
Indeed, time continues to slip by second by second.
But with every second that slips by history is continuously being made.
Each second in history is truly very precious.
So, that's why we must work mindfully to record every moment in history.
We still vividly remember what happened yesterday.
Heads and staff of our Four Missions came back to Hualien for a three-day training camp.
Indeed, gathering together in the same space at the same time.

Later, these attendees also shared their thoughts with one another on what they've learned from the classes.
Though some to the lectures were about Tzu Chi's history and roots,
these are things we should go back and learn.

The events of the past few days are still fresh in our memories, especially the historic moment when I handed the letter of appointment to Supt. Lin of our hospital in Dalin yesterday and appointed him as the chief executive officer of our medical mission.
More than 20 years ago, we built our first hospital in Hualien.
Then we built other hospitals in Dalin, Yuli, Guanshan,
How can these six hospitals of ours work together to promote Tzu Chi's medical culture of humanity?
Life is the most precious ting in the world.
(It is only because man is living)
(that he is able to make history)
What people deal with in this world are suffering and happiness.
Be it suffering or happiness, we are bound to experience it in the course of our lives.
That is way the first principle that the Buddha expounded is the truth of suffering.
Life is filled with suffering.
Suffering arises from natural and manmade disasters which are the result of the bad collective karma that people create together.
That's why there're so many disasters in the world.
All this originates from the human mind.
Within the human mind thoughts are constantly forming and extinguishing.
This ever-changing mind produces much suffering.
(and over time)
(forms bad habits and tendencies)
Because of these bad habits and tendencies people do things that endanger others.
For example, in our daily living when we have bad dietary habits.
(that cause harm to our environment)
or pollute the air.
(we're endangering all lives on the Earth)
All in all, the medical profession deals with human life.
In the course of people's lives they will go through aging and illness.
How are we to safeguard everyone's life with love?
In the training camp yesterday, we saw that everyone shared the same ideals and they also encouraged one another---
I'm confident that the superintendents and heads of the departments at our hospitals all share the same goals and aspirations in doing all that they can for the hospitals they are working in.
All our hospitals have established a good reputation.
However, via what means can our six hospitals work with one another to promote Tzu Chi's ideals and spirit of selfless Great Love in serving as a guardian of people's health and how can our hospitals combine forces to care for the suffering and work for the greater good of the world by working to become a model hospital and
(providing quality medical care with humanity)
We need a very experienced medical professional to lead us to achieve these ideals and make our hospitals an exemplar worldwide.
It has been 20 years since Supt. Lin first joined Tzu Chi in the
Coincidentally, it has also been 20 years since Asst. Supt. Chien first joined our hospital in Hualien.
The year that Supt. Lin joined Tzu Chi was also the year that Asst. Supt. Chien came to serve in Hualien.
Both of them have been in Tzu Chi for 20 years already.
What a coincidence. Such are karmic affinities.

Yesterday, I appointed Supt. Lin as the chief executive officer of our medical mission also appointed Asst. Supt. Chien to be the supt. of our hospital in Dalin.
I hope he can continue to lead the hospital which is as well equipped as any hospital in the city.

I believe that with six hospitals working together with one heart to safeguard life with love.
We can become a model hospital that exemplifies medicine with humanity and be an exemplar worldwide.

一人一善灑愛心
六院同心為磐石
醫療人文作標竿
七年前證嚴發起一人一善運動，希望啟發人們心中的愛與善，來化解仇恨與紛爭，而慈濟以人為本的醫療理念，現在在醫療志業體執行長林俊龍的帶領下，結合教育慈善與人文，醫病醫心，為淨化人心祥和社會而努力。
回顧2001年，從台灣的桃芝、納莉風災、美國９１１事件，到美國與阿富汗戰爭，全球天災人禍不斷，人心動盪不安。為了勸募每人一份善念，當年10月13號，由印順導師在靜思精舍，親自啟動愛灑人間運動；而在美國紐澤西自由公園，和台北慈濟關渡園區，同時響起和平鐘聲的那一刻起，「一人一善，遠離災難」的運動正式在全球展開。
善念的累積，就是希望人間能擁有更多的幸福。民國八十四年，林俊龍放棄在美的高薪待遇返台，由花蓮慈院副院長到大林慈院院長，一路任重道遠，如今榮升為慈濟醫療志業體執行長，證嚴上人期許他帶領慈濟六家醫院，繼續推動人本醫療。
把愛落實在醫療上，為更多病患拔苦予樂；將愛灑向人間，期許人人堅定善的心念，祈求天下無災無難。
