人間菩提--心念能改變一切

The children we've just seen are students of the elementary school and the middle school in the Cengkareng Great Love Estate.

Look how bright and beautiful they are.

In fact, the lyrics and music of this song were written and composed by the students themselves.

Doesn't sound nice?

This isn't the only song they've written.

They've written three songs.

The song we heard is just one of them.

How bright and beautiful they are.

They rehearsed this for two months.

Seeing them makes us feel that there's hope for the future.

(We see how a good thought can change the world)

You see this group of children.

Do you know what conditions they lived in six years ago?

They used to live by the Angke River.

What did the Angke River look like back then?

The extent of its dirtiness was beyond description.

It was very dirty and smelled very bad.

Everywhere you looked, there was garbage.

(At that time,) the area had been flooded for two months already due to heavy rain two months prior.

So, we quickly asked Tzu Chi volunteers in Indonesia as well as local entrepreneurs to come to Taiwan for a meeting.

Mr. Eka T. Widjaja was among them Prior to this, Mr. Widjaja had once brought his son, Franky Widjaja to see me because his son wanted to become a disciple of mine.

And so, this time, both father and son came to Taiwan for the meeting.

After I listened to their reports about the flooding by the Angke River, I told them that it is possible to help the people.

As long as local entrepreneurs can unite to help the people they do have the means to change these people's circumstances.

They can accomplish it if they unite I suggested to them a five-part plan.

(to be carried out at the same time)

I also asked Mr. Widjaja to see if he could, through the influence he has seek the government's assistance.

So, the military and police along with the flood victims, and Tzu Chi volunteers all worked together to clean up the Angke River.

What is most is moving about Mr. Widjaja is that he's actually a Christian and he also owns one of the largest conglomerates in Indonesia.

Yet, he was able to humble himself and work with everyone to clean up the garbage.

He participated in the clean up and led others by example.

It was truly very moving.

With his help, we were able to carry out the five-part plan:

Pumping out floodwaters, cleaning up disinfecting the area holding a free clinic and finding land to build the Great Love Estate to relocate the flood victims.

They've accomplished all five parts of the plan.

As long as we have the will and aspiration we'll have the strength to carry it out.

(And with this strength,)

They've inspired local entrepreneurs to donate money to help.

In the past five years, there has been an ongoing clean up project for the Angke River.

So, gradually the river is being restored to its original state.

Now, the water is no longer stagnant but is flowing in the river again.

It's been five years.

On August 30 of this year, the residents of the Cengkareng Great Love Estate celebrated the 5 year anniversary.

The vice governor of Jakarta said that "Great Love" is a very good name for the housing community because the residents there are full of love.

I get along with my neighbors very well.

We all live in harmony and don't quarrel with each other whether they are Chinese or Christian.

I've made many friends.

They all love one another.

Not only do they love one another, they even work together to clean up their surroundings.

It's truly hard to come by.

There is also a job training center in the Estate.

There is a group of mothers learning crafts at the center.

But they also take other classes.

When I lived on the bank of the Angke River, I don't know how to read.

After coming here, I started to take classes at the job training center to learn how to read and write.

I also bring my children to the center.

So if they have problems with their homework there are people there who can help.

I've been taking classes at the center for about a year.

I participated in many activities.

It was really fun.

I hope my child can become accomplished.

(and get a lot of education)

and not be like me, who never went to school.

See, the Great Love Estate not only provides a place to live for these people,

it also helps them improve their knowledge and provides education for the children.

In Indonesia, Tzu Chi's work has been carried out very well.

The core of our work and philosophy these 42 years have been implemented there in Jakarta.

This was only possible because of the dedication of our volunteers.

Though big entrepreneurs they humbled themselves to take part in the work with others working in unity and harmony.

They really joined together as a team.

We often hear of entrepreneurs competing against one another and comparing who is more successful, etc.

They aren't like that. They encourage each other.

(and respect one another for)

(each person's business achievements)

And join together to carry out Tzu Chi's missions.

They also have very big vows.

With the reduction of global rice supplies, they hope to help the framers by providing land to poor farmers so they have land to farm on.

They also hope to help the poor by providing them merchandise for free, so they can

Open up a shop and learn to run it and support themselves with it.

See how these entrepreneurs have their own businesses but want to use it to help people across different sectors of society.

(so that all can lead a better life)

This is something that they're just now starting.

I also advised them to be very mindful in planning and developing the projects.

In a work, in Indonesia, local entrepreneurs are really getting involved in work to benefit the society.

As a result, the poor are being helped, and the wealthy are devoting their time, talent, and treasure and they are inspiring more people to contribute and help those in need.

The backbone of Tzu Chi's work these 42 years have been brought over & carried out in Indonesia.

So, they carry out all four Tzu Chi missions:

Charity, Medicine, Education, and Culture

They have established a television station.

Moreover, thanks to Da Ai TV Indonesia, many people want to join Tzu Chi as volunteers.

Our local office has received many phone calls from peole asking how they can join as a volunteer or a regular donating member.

Here in Taiwan, Tzu Chi started from nothing and grew gradually over the decades.

But in Indonesia, they've culled the essence of Tzu Chi's philosophy and in just a few years, Tzu Chi's Four Missions have already taken form there.

So, many people want to join as volunteers.

How to coordinate all these people?

It is truly a demanding endeavor has been made possible by the pooling together of every person's love and effort.

So, we must know that the mind is very powerful---

our good thoughts can change the world
