The images that we see truly make us appreciate the true value of life.
Among the 11 Silent Mentors for this time's anatomy class for medical students was Mr. Hong Zhi-cheng
Thinking about Mr. Hong……
What an active part the played in Tzu Chi.
He was the convener of honorary board members in central
There wasn't anything that he didn't do.
Be it taking part in relief work or giving talks,
he'd go everywhere to do the work diligently.
He was truly a very active & good disciple of mine.
He had a very happy family and a very successful career and business.
He dedicated himself to Tzu Chi's missions and humbled himself to do every kind of work.
Think about it how can I not miss him?
Though he had so much and lived such a vibrant and meaningful life.
(in 2005, when we has only in his fifties)
(after being hospitalized upon)
(suffering a gastric hemorrhage, he was diagnosed) as being in the terminal stage of liver cancer.

But, his health condition kept deteriorating like a roller coaster sliding downward.
When our Tzu Chi volunteers went to visit him, he'd say:
When you're still in good health, dedicate yourself.
Seize every second in life.
Let no moment go to waste.
Don't wait until you're sick to realize you want to do good.
It'd be too late.
You've done so much.
Not at all, not at all.
I'll always embrace the Buddha's heart and Master's mission as my very own.
He encouraged everyone not to slacken their pace but to follow my footsteps closely.
After he passed away, his body was brought back to Hualien.
When I lifted the cloth that covered him, his wife saw his have and said to me.
"Master, he's smiling"
I said to her, "Yes"
"you can set your mind at ease"
"He's returned to the Jing Si Abode"
"and then he will go to where"
"he can have his last wish fulfilled---"
"
"He wanted to be a Silent Mentor"
"So, because he fulfilled his wish,"
"he smiled so happily"
"So, we should set our minds at ease too"
In the lyrical adaptation of the Sutra of Innumerable Meanings, it says:
"Despite being seriously ill,"
"having compassion for all,"
"the ferryman delivers living beings"

Likewise, after Mr. Hong found out that he had cancer, even at the time when he was very seriously ill, he didn't forget about Tzu Chi.
Though he couldn't do the work physically, he used whatever strength he had left to share his thoughts and experiences with others and remind them (to walk the path steadfastly)
Despite his own illness, he encouraged others, hoping that they could emulate the Buddha's heart carry out my mission as their very own and seize every moment to serve others deliver people to the other shore in his boat.
Although the ferryman was ill with his solid boat (the Dharma),
he could still carry living beings across the boundless vast sea.
Mr. Hong had truly educated others with the example he set.
(After he passed away,)
He further donated his body for others to use.
How could his body be used?
(For medical education)
Of course, while I'm very grateful to Tzu Chi volunteers who donated their bodies for medical use, it is also necessary to have those who can put these bodies to good use.
That is the staff of our university.
See how our staff dedicated themselves to educating our students and pass on medical knowledge to them.
Seeing that, I'm truly very grateful.
We also saw how Professor Zeng, Asst. Professor Wang, as well as the medical technicians at the university's department of anatomy dedicated themselves so wholeheartedly and how they worked with one heart to teach our medical students by passing on their knowledge to the students.
What they did has greatly contributed to what we have accomplished today.
What's more, they helped fulfill the final wish of these bodhisattvas who have left a legacy of love in the world.
Professor Zeng truly teaches with all his heart.
He is a very strict teacher, especially when it comes to teaching the students to have respect toward the body donors.
He understands Tzu Chi's values of humanity.
He also understands the dedication and the selfless Great Love of each body donor while they were still alive.
It is through their contributions that we were able to build hospitals as well as the university and other schools.
These body donors had dedicated every bit and even donated their bodies after death.
So, Professor Zeng is very mindful and respectful to these body donors himself, and he works hard to pass this respect on to his teaching staff and students.
That is why he's very strict with his staff and students and why he works so hard with great mindfulness.
I am truly very grateful for his efforts.

There is also Asst. Professor Wang Yue-ran.
I'm very worried about her as she often has a headache.
However, she puts up with the pain and still works very diligently to fulfill her duties as a teacher.
Whether it is in learning or teaching, she is very conscientious.
She mindfully accepts the guidance of Professor Zeng and further passes what she learns on to the students with a sense of mission.
She endures the pain from her headaches and still teaches her students very mindfully.
I am very grateful for her dedication.
These are two other members in the anatomy dept. who've been providing technical support day in and day out for over ten years now.
Whenever they receive a phone call about a donor's body being delivered, even in the middle of the night, they'll go to receive the body willingly and quickly work to preserve the donor's body.
So, through their careful preservation process every Silent Mentor is very will preserved.
Everyone, do you know how grateful I am to our anatomy team?
I truly respect and love them dearly.
For the surgical simulation a few days ago, our volunteer doctors from seven countries also participated in it.
They all found the experience quite incredible because they saw how these body donors served as Tzu Chi volunteers & gave of themselves so selflessly when they were alive.
Seeing how these body donors worked to benefit others while they were alive and then donated their bodies when they died, these doctors from abroad who participated.
In the surgical simulation were all very touched.
See how our Silent Mentors have shown their selfless Great Love even to those from abroad through these surgical simulations participated by doctors from other countries.
These Silent Mentors had truly lived their life to its fullest.
(by dedicating themselves to serving others,) and even donated their bodies for medical use leaving a legacy of love in this world.
See how valuable and meaningful their life was.
All in all, there are too many things to be grateful for.
Bodhisattvas and their fine examples are to be found all around us.
百八重病常相纏
悲憫眾生不顧己

慈濟大學模擬手術課程剛剛結束，緊接著是醫學系大三學生的大體解剖課，這次又有十一位大體老師被啟用。證嚴上人在今天的志工早會提到，大體老師就好像無量義經當中所提到的大船師，捨出身體成就醫學生的學習，是真正走入經藏的大菩薩。
慈大醫學系三年級的大體解剖課正式啟用，要為醫學生未來的人醫之路，打好基礎。感恩十一位無語良師捨身付出，也感謝慈大解剖學科同仁以教育，讓無語良師無用化大用，成為醫學妙用。
每位無語良師，生前為家庭為社會付出，人生的最後一刻更為醫療奉獻，就像是慈濟志工洪志成，即使病苦纏身，心裡想的，還是如何把握每分每秒，為苦難人付出。
人間菩薩用愛付出，捨身成為人群典範，無聲的說法寫下人間大藏經。
