人間菩提--國際人醫團圓月

Indeed, at all times, we must be grateful to everyone and everything with utmost sincerity.

We must be thankful to all Buddhas and guarding deities above.

Truly, being safe & sound is the greatest blessing.

Every year, members of Tzu Chi Medical Association (TIMA) will gather together in Tai wan on the Moon Festival.

This year happens to be the tenth anniversary of TIMA.

Many of you have come a long way to be here today and it just so happened that a typhoon is affecting Taiwan these few days.

So, it's created a lot of work for people.

However, Tzu Chi volunteers never see it as hard work, but feel blessed.

They feel blessed because everyone shares the same ideals and walks on the same path.

For such a large group of people from a dozen or so countries to uphold the same missions and humanistic spirit and gather together here in Taiwan is truly not an easy feat.

Being a part of it, how blessed we all are.

Yesterday, I went to the Jing Si Hall and listened to the sharings of our TIMA members

Who carry out both of our missions of charity and medicine.

Thank to your TIMA members and Tzu Chi volunteers, the sick and the poor are relieved from their suffering.

For example, in just two years' time, our TIMA members in Thailand performed surgery

for over 20,000 patients with cataract.

See how they have helped people to regain their vision and be able to see again.

What they did (truly benefited these people)

I also heard the story of a family in Indonesia. OF the four members in the family, three have eye illness. The mother had developed cataracts and her two daughters also have cataracts.

They came to one of the free clinics we held where our doctors removed the cataracts for them.

After the mother had surgery and was able to see, she found her husband looking old and haggard.

But, as we think about it, the family is not well-off, so her has to work hard, doing farming and odd jobs o earn money in order to support the whole family, he had to toil away so inevitably.

(he'd look older than he actually is)

and appear weathered and aged.

The daughter finally got to see the colors of the world.

(And after such a long time,)

She can finally see her father. mother, and sibling again.

It is just like a dark room that has suddenly been lit up, so that you can finally see how the room is inside.

(This is just like Buddha's mission)

(in coming to this world)

which was to open people eyes to the Truth and lead them to realization of the Truth.

Our doctors

(perform surgery on the physical body)

So when people have cataracts, they're able to use their knowledge and skill to restore their sight so they can see again.

Meanwhile, the Buddha opens up our mind's eye.

(so that we can see the Truth)

(But, listening to the teachings, have we truly)

(opened our mind's eye?)

In the 40 years that the Buddha expounded the Dharma, he taught in different ways tailoring to people's different aptitudes.

Because people have different aptitudes

(as everyone has different desires and needs,)

So the Buddha had to come up with different ways to explain to people the karmic law of cause and effect which causes living beings to reincarnate within the Six Realms life after life.

There are some in the realm of hell suffering a great deal.

These past few days, I have been very anxious and worried.

Why? Because of the typhoon warning.

The typhoon kept growing in strength

(from category 1 all the way to category 4)

I was very anxious and worried.

I was truly very, very worried.

At such a time, I was in a kind of spiritual hell because the typhoon was very large and would bring heavy wind and rain.

Even before the typhoon approached Taiwan, my heart was already within the rain bands of the typhoon.

That feeling is truly agonizing. If the heavy wind and rain truly came there could be mudslides and damaged roads.

Thinking of that, it was very hard to sleep during the night.

The rain bands of the typhoon are still over Taiwan, so we must all still stay on guard.

From the weather report, I heard that the typhoon isn't only moving slowly, but its direction also seems to be twisting a bit.

So, we must still be on alert.

We must not let down our guard.

However, for every second that we live in peace and safety, that the wind and rain do not cause damage, we should be very grateful.

We should be grateful to all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and the spiritual beings.

We should really believe that there are spiritual beings looking upon us.

So, if we pray sincerely, our prayers will resonate and be heard by the Buddhas and all those above.

So, we should not indulge ourselves.

Instead, we should be prudent, sincere, and pious.

Yesterday, I saw from the news that Tzu Chi volunteers have all mobilized.

All around Taiwan, they've gone into the community to prepare people.

They visited our care recipients and helped them to make sure that their windows were secure.

They also helped the elderly to move to a safer area.

It is indeed very touching.

So, I am truly very grateful.

Yesterday, I also visited our hospital. schools. Jing Si Hall in Hualien and I am very grateful that everyone has taken all the proper precautions.

We also see that Tzu Chi volunteers from all parts of Taiwan have gathered in Hualien to help with the TIMA convention and welcome back the doctors, nurses, medical personnel, etc.

and members of the Tzu Chi family returning from around the world.

Such a large group of volunteers in Taiwan have mobilized to help with the attendees' daily living needs, and other preparations.

They broke up into different groups.

(and divided up the work)

each fulfilling their duties.

I am truly very grateful.

Everywhere I went, I saw that everyone was committed to making everything the best it could be.

So, I would say to each group:  "It's been a lot of hard work for you"

And they'd say: "No, I feel very happy. I'm very blessed"

Furthermore, at all our facilities, Tzu Chi people have remained at their posts and made very good preparations for the typhoon.

In all, at every moment we must care for people, the environment, and the planet with a grateful heart. We must love and respect Mother Nature and dedicate ourselves to caring for the people of our world.

And let us great every second with an attitude of sincere piety, vigilance & caution.
