人間菩提--心月朗照.戒慎防颱

Once a year, around this time, our TIMA doctors and other bodhisattvas come back to Taiwan from different countries.

It is truly a very joyous occasion. Last night, our Taiwan volunteers went to the train station to welcome all the TIMA doctors, medical personnel and Tzu Chi volunteers who had returned.

Seeing the large, orderly group of volunteers truly made me very happy.

At this time every year, our TIMA members return so that they can spend the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival with one another and enjoy the bright full moon together and enjoy the bright full moon together.

However, this year, a typhoon over the Pacific Ocean has already formed and strengthened into a category 4 typhoon. This typhoon, Sinlaku, is gradually getting closer to Taiwan.

The typhoon is moving very slowly, but its wind strength is continually growing.

Seeing the power and strength that the typhoon possesses.

I am truly very worried.

I asked our meteorologist at Da Ai TV, Dr. Peng, exactly how strong the typhoon is and he told me that it is similar in strength to Typhoon Longwang and Typhoon Haitang (that struck in 2005)

(which were category 4 and 5 respectively)

So, we can imagine how strong Sinlaku is.

Tzu Chi volunteers across Taiwan, you must all heighten your vigilance.

All throughout Taiwan we should take precautions and be sincerely pious to guard against Typhoon Siniaku.

We must carefully take all necessary precautions and prepare for the typhoon's arrival.

Also, be it our hospitals or Tzu Chi offices, everyone, please be vigilant and on the alert.

All our Tzu Chi Chengs and commissioners in our Tzu Chi offices and chapters in Taiwan should quickly set up relief coordination centers and start spreading the word to every family in every community.

We should also see if we can help our care recipients and the elderly who live alone to move to safer places.

So, we must be cautious and sincerely pious and take precautions to guard against the typhoon.

Because of the typhoon, it will be difficult for us to see the moon this time.

However, within everyone one of us, there is a very bright full moon in our heart.

So, we must all give rise to such a heart of purity and brightness like that of the moon and pray with utmost piety that everyone may be safe and sound and that there may be no disasters.

I earnestly hope that the next few days can pass by in peace and safety and that not much damage will be done.

So, it may be hard for us to see the moon this time but all we pray for is that everyone will be safe and sound, and that there be no disaster.

That's what Tzu Chi volunteers around Taiwan should piously pray for from this moment on.

Every year at this time, TIMA members around the world will come back to Hualien to spend the Moon Festival together.

This year, although a typhoon is approaching, it's the tenth anniversary of TIMA which is an occasion worth celebrating.

Over the past ten years, our TIMA doctors around the world have worked closely with one another.

Wherever there was a disaster, our local TIMA doctors or those from neighboring countries would join together to give of their love and care for those affected by the disaster.

They are truly humane doctors who care for those in need with Great Love.

That's why we respectfully refer to them as "Great Healers". "Great Healer" is another name for the Buddha.

So, these doctors are like living buddhas.

With their wondrous skills, they not only treat patients, but also bring comfort to those they treat.

We see how our doctors care for others with a loving heart and wondrous skills and how they humble themselves to serve others.

No matter what social status the people are be they rich or poor, our doctors treat everyone with equal love and are so caring to their patients.

I addition to seeing patients in the hospital, they also go to out-of-the-way places without doctors to provide medical services.

Each month, in their countries of residence, they go to care for people in remote areas.

TIMA members in Taiwan are also the same.

On weekends or holidays, they go to mountainous areas or offshore islands to conduct medical outreaches and serve those in need or living in poverty.

They also go out of country to give free clinics and conduct disaster relief work.

They not only provide medical services but also carry out our mission of charity.

When they travel abroad to give free clinics, they'd also take part in our distribution work.

See how they carry out our missions of medicine and charity at the same time.

In fact, in the U.S., our first free clinic center there opened in 1993.

I'm truly very grateful to Supt. Lin of our hospital in Dalin who is now the convener of TIMA.

He was in the U.S. back then, and was one of the founders of that free clinic.

The next country we provided medical care in was the Philippines.

In 1995, Tzu Chi volunteers started providing free medication to patients at the Chinese General Hospital (CGH) and East Avenue Medical Center.

That was also the year our volunteers in the Philippines started to give free clinics.

In September 1996, Vice Supt. Len of the CGH brought a group of doctors serving in our free clinics to the Abode to see me.

It happened to be the Mid-autumn Moon Festival.

Beginning from that year, Tzu Chi medical team members from te Philippines would come back to Hualien on the Moon Festival.

(So, in 1998 when TIMA)

(was officially established,)

(like our doctors in the Phillippines)

(TIMA members from other countries)

Also came back to spend the festival with me.

That was how the TIMA convention began.

But this year's typhoon really makes me very anxious and worried.

I'm truly very worried about this typhoon.

So, I hope that everyone will bring forth from within the purity and brightness like that of the moon and shine it upon their hearts.

I also hope that everyone will shine forth the light from their hearts upon others with sincere piety.

I hope that TIMA members attending the convention this time can shine upon one another this beautiful light that comes from their hearts.

I hope that everyone's heart will be filled with joy.
