We should be grateful for the mercy of this typhoon because this typhoon brought less severe wind and rain than expected to the eastern part of Taiwan.

Shouldn't we be grateful for this?

This typhoon, however, was still powerful.

Its rain washed mud into an elementary school.

It was truly worrisome to see this.

There were also damages to several roads & bridges.

In Fengyuan, central Taiwan, a bridge was broken in half by the raging waters.

Two cars were traveling on the bridge when it collapsed.

So, last night more than a hundred rescuers were mobilized to search for the people in the cars. I also saw Tzu Chi volunteers providing ginger soup and food to the rescuers working in the wind and rain.

It was truly heartwarming to see.

Yet I'm very worried about the people in those two cars.

We also saw the memorial service for the body donors.

The body donors for this time's surgery simulation were very blessed.

Doctors and medical personnel from 18 countries attending our TIMA convention and our medical students have learned a great deal about the human body though the surgeries performed on them.

From these body donors or silent mentors, they were able to improve their medical knowledge and skill.

(Doctors heal people with their)

(wondrous hands and skills). These humane doctors have learned even more through this experience.

I'm also very grateful (to the body donors)

All of us should understand the true principles governing life in this world.

Our physical body naturally goes through the process of birth. aging . illnesss. and death.

So, after one dies, the physical body can still be donated for doctors to learn from thus benefiting people at large.

(This is a marvelous and)

(wonderful use of the human body)

If we do not understand the natural law of life and death and still cling to the notion of feng shui believing that when one passes away, one needs to find a good burial site so as to bring prosperity to one's offspring---

That is superstition.

Our offspring have their own fate.

Whether they have a good life depends on whether they've created blessings. If they have,

they will lead a good life.

If they did not create blessings,

(or good karma,)

Then in thi life they will have to undergo the retribution for the karma they had created.

(So, only he who sows blessings can reap them)

So, we shouldn't be superstitious.

The bodies of these body donors have been kept in good condition for a period of time.

(and now it's being used)to benefit the people in this world.

See, this requires that their family members have an open mind and have wisdom, not superstition and support the use of the bodies for medical use so that it can benefit humanity and leave a legacy of love.

See how meaningful this is.

I'm very grateful for this.

We also saw the evening program of the TIMA convention at the Jing Si Hall last night.

The attendees all have a very pure heart like that of a clear moon.

They shined this light upon one another.

They performed a program based on verses from a Buddhist sutra.

Indeed, Buddhism encompasses this world as the Buddha's teachings can explain all the phenomena in this world.

For the TIMA convention the attendees were from 18 countries of different races, and speak different languages.

However, they all share the same heart.

Their hearts are pure, just like the clear moon.

(They've purified their hearts)

(So, they can very clearly see)

(the affairs and principles in this world)

When we can do things in a way that achieves harmony & resolves matters satisfactorily then we are in accord with true principles.

(That is the state which Buddhism describes as) having a mind like a perfect mirror.

(As we shine our mirrors upon one another)

It can reflect on one another.

See, if we want to see the moon on this Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, we will only see one moon in the sky.

But we can see (hundreds of moons)

(as reflected in the bright mirror within)

of the medical personnel from the 18 countries.

Moreover, there are also our volunteers in Taiwan who have accompanied the attendees throughout.

Before the convention our volunteers in central Taiwan (had been taking the lead)

in setting up the convention.

Our volunteers from southern and northern Taiwan also joined in the effort.

See, everyone of these volunteers (also have a pure heart, like a mirror)

(that shines just as bright)

(This purity of heart is just like)

(that of the Buddha) all have the same pure heart.

We also see them forming on stage the Chinese character "ren" which means humanity.

Our volunteer Ci Yue is truly talented.

She designed this by getting the doctors from different countries together on the stage calling out their names one by one and formed this word.

We're very grateful to the staff of our Da Ai TV for reporting on the TIMA convention thses past few days forever capturing on film the way of these humane doctors.

See how wonderful this is.

Yesterday was truly a display of truth, goodness, and beauty.

Such a beautiful life.

Such genuine, true hearts.

This beauty comes from having a good heart and selfless love.

We also saw two young people from the Philippines singing the song about gratitude.

"Grains of rice that fill a basket"

"Drops of water that from the river"

So long as we have the heart and will, blessings will come our way.

Love pure as water.

Heart filled with gratitude.

Thousands of hearts pure as the lotus flower from the world of Tzu Chi.

See, this is Great Love which is boundless.

Look, isn't the Tzu Chi world created by people with pure hearts of love?

That's right. We really need to have pure love.

The Dharma is like water.

(Our wisdom-life needs this water to grow)

So we really need love. I'm very grateful that everyone comes together, giving their love to create this Tzu Chi world.

Today's Jing Si Aphorisms:    Our future accomplishments are determined entirely by how every second in our life is put to use. The future is the cumulation of many "nows"

 今日靜思語: 未來的成就完全是在掌握分秒中造就出來,"未來"也是由"現在"累積而成.
