人間菩提--救人救心續物命
What we're seeing is a country filled with suffering, because it's plagued by war and
has suffered several natural disasters.
In the central part of
Because this region contains such rich natural resources,
People started fighting over it.
All factions want control of this region.
The fighting, however, has created much suffering and much harm to innocent civilians making it difficult to survive there.
Because the country is continually embroiled in internal fighting, its people live in chaos and turmoil.
How are they to survive?
And then there are natural disasters.
People in that country truly suffer a lot.
Who would wish to be born in such a country?
If we had the choice, who would choose to live in a poor country that is ravaged by war
And struck by natural disaster?
(No one wants to)
But they can't help it, (as their life is determined)
(by the karma they've created)
This is why everyday I tell everyone to take good care of your heart and mind.
(We need to do the right thing)
At this time when we can still make choices and decide what to do still make choices and decide what to do, we must carefully choose what is right and lead an upright life.
Now that we can still have control over our life, we must carefully choose what is right
And lead an upright life.
Now that we can still have control over our life.
At this time, when we can still make choices and decide what to do,
we must carefully choose what is right and lead an upright life.
Now that we can still have control over our life, we must choose to do what is right.
(If we create negative karma now)
When that negative karma comes to fruition there will be nothing we can do to change it.
Where we are born.
(is our karmic retribution)
Seeing people in such suffering and misery is truly heartrending.
In this world, there are wealthy countries
(Where its people live in prosperity)
(We're all human beings)
Why is it that some people have no choice but to lead such a life of suffering?
Let us now look at Tropical Storm Hanna.
More bodies have been discovered in
(It's unclear what the real death toll is)
And now, there is another storm, Ike
(so
See how much suffering they face.
The people were already poor to begin with
(and now, there's this disaster)
How are the people going to survive?
We realty don't know.
However, even a strong and wealthy country like the
Indeed, it is not within man's power
(to overpower nature and prevent disasters)
We can only prevent it by living piously by waking up from our mistakes and rectifying our minds and taking care of our land and environment.
Fortunately, there are people who cherish our land and give love to other people.
We see a starfruit farm up in a mountain in
Every year, the farmers use a lot of people and plastic bags to protect the starfruits on the trees.
At harvest time, they take off these paper and plastic bags and these bags become garbage.
Thy way they deal with the garbage is to burn it or throw it into the stream.
When they burn the bags, it creates air pollution.
When they throw them into the stream, they can block the waterway and pollute the stream.
The methods they use all create problems.
When our Tzu Chi volunteers learned of it, they went to this town to give a talk on
environmental protection.
They told the townspeople that these bags can in fact be recycled.
(They talked about protecting the land)
and also led the farmers to clean up these bags.
You can see how many bags were thrown away.
So, now the town is promoting environmental protection,
The farmers were very happy that Tzu Chi volunteers went there and told them about environmental protection.
So, there are now volunteers in that town.
Seeing that makes me very happy.
Let us now look at the staff of our construction department.
They have a lot of wisdom.
Ever since they saw the news about the children in
(get more use out of old things)
They have many pencils that are too short for writing.
So, they would go look for pen barrels and put t pencil on each end,
So they can continue to use the pencil extending its lifespan.
See how adorable they are.
This is cherishing goods
(They wouldn't waste)
(any pencil that could still be usable)
They're even more creative in making crafts out of worn out pants and cloths.
Look how adorable they are.
If everyone was like them, would there be so much garbage around today?
Moreover, people would be well-off as they would have plenty of resources to use.
See how adorable they are in making good use of unwanted materials.
We also see our young volunteers.
(continuing our love in
"Grandpa, we brought you some cookies"
When you're hungry, you can eat this."
On weekends, these young volunteers would get together and visit this elderly man.
This elderly man cannot see.
So, our young volunteers went to clean up his place for him.
They saw that the cookies this grandpa has had become moldy.
"These cookies have gone bad. You can't eat it."
"I want to eat it."
Eating bad food is not good for the body.
We'll buy you new cookies.
(You see the love they displayed)
These young volunteers have learned to care for others,
(and they are doing it in the local area)
This enables their wisdom-life to grow.
Everyone, we are extending the life of material things at the same time, we have also nurtured.
The spiritual wisdom-life of children in
(We also see a young teenager doing good deeds)
On days off from school, she goes home, which requires walking an hour in order to help her relative harvest rice.
She's being filial to her parents and family.
Because my parents don't have time to help with the harvest and I often go to my aunt's house to eat since my parents can't help with the harvest.
I thought I'd come and help my aunt.
Everyday, these young volunteers would also do recycling work around their school.
See how Tzu Chi volunteers have both helped people
(and inspired them to do good)
Seeing them doing this makes me very happy.
But when I think of the children who are scavenging in the garbage to survive,
I feel helpless to help them and I feel a lot of heartache for them.
I hope, one day, we'll be able to go to that country a place f suffering and misery and help the people there.
